Pizzetta

Their slogan is perfect because there is no exaggeration. Everything is homemade including: the pasta, sauce, and even the sausage. The combination of food and price were so good that we had to drive to Old Koloa Town on the south side of the island twice.

We had a pepperoni and pineapple pizza. The dough was obviously homemade and cooked to perfection. The sauce was sensational! We are still searching for a pizza in California that could even come close to what we tasted there. On another trip, Frank ordered the spaghetti. Again, the pasta was homemade and perfectly cooked. The sauce had chunks of fresh grown tomatoes in it. Only in Italy could he get anything better than what he tasted that evening. We both had a huge, rich, chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge. Not even Claim Jumper restaurants could compete with this.

Mema

If you're looking for authentic Thai cuisine, this is the place for you. It is located on the Wailua Shopping Plaza in Kapa'a. This had beautiful Chinese furniture and sculptures.

Frank had the House Curry with chicken, but he should have had the mild Yellow Curry. It was extremely good but he was unprepared for all of the spices in it. I had a most delicious lemon fish. I do not like fish but this was something else...out of this world!

The price was along the same amount as the Panda Garden. The food and the quality is definitely worth a lot more.

Panda Garden

Located next door to A Pacific Cafe, this resaurant had a casual yet classy touch to it. The workers were extremely professional and helpful.

Frank had the lemon chicken which I wanted. It had the perfect amount of sweet and sour taste to it. I ordered the Peking duck which was mouth-watering. The waiter even showed me how to eat it with the special sauce, bread, and onion which looked like grass.

This high class meal came with a very low cost price. The dinner cost with gratuity was about US$30.00.

The Bull Shed

Overlooking the ocean with a moonlit view, lovers sit close to each other with only a candle light in between them. This is definitely a place to take a romantic date.

Frank had the Mahi Mahi which was as tough as a steak. I had asked for a well done steak, but received a piece of charcoal instead. Frank thinks that the Sizzler in America is 100 times better than this place.

The Bull Shed should be named after their food, The Bull S**t.

Roy's Po'ipu Bar & Grill

From the moment we walked into this glamorous atmosphere, we thought we were in for a treat. However, we were sadly mistaken.

The food was sculpted like a 4 star restaurant but it tasted like a 2 star Taco Bell. Frank had a filet mignon that was hardly seasoned. I had a very bland dinner that wasn't very memorable since I can't remember it. We had the same dessert as A Pacific Cafe, but this was filled with liquid on the inside. That was the only thing good about this restaurant.

If you want good service, you need to wear very expensive clothing. Since we were seated in the middle of a walkway, you can imagine the service was horrible!

A Pacific Cafe

Located at Kaua'i Village in Kapa'a, A Pacific Cafe had a quaint atmosphere. Even though it is a store front restaurant, do not let that discourage you. It is definitely a 4 star restaurant! According to the Zagat Survey, it is "One of America's top restaurants."

Frank had a delicious sea bass that was seasoned to perfection. It was by far, the best food he had ever had in his entire life. I had the delicious rack of lamb. It was tender and meaty. Then for dessert, we each had a chocolate souffle with hot, chocolate fudge. The price for this dinner and gratuity was approximately US$100.00.

Journal

It was Sept. 11, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. when we arrived at the Honolulu, Hawaii airport. I wore jeans and a t-shirt and I was about to pass out. The humidity was very high and we are used to Southern California weather. I did a lot of research about the weather in Hawaii before we left but nothing could have prepared me for it.

My girlfriend and I made travel arrangements with All About Hawaii. They had a great deal. Nine nights and ten days which included airfare, hotel, car rental, for $1,743.00 USD. Everything went perfectly well with no lost luggage or delays of any kind.

About Kauai

As you are about to see, the Kauai is an extraordinary beautiful and peaceful island. The fast pace of city life does not exist over there. Everyone is calm and relaxed and so was my girlfriend and me.

I was under the impression that the island is kind of desolate. This is not true. They have major food chains as well as department stores. But that does not take away from the tranquility and peace of mind that I obtained there. I remember driving along in our rented Ford Escort and feeling so relaxed and at peace with myself.

Kauai is filled with the aura of the Gods. The whole island is nothing but a jungle and there were several things to do there. It is definitely for people who want to physically do things rather than just sit around and watch shows or go to clubs. Kauai does not have those type of attractions. It is purely an outdoor paradise.
